Our flock of 50+ sheep and lambs are rotated around 30 acres of pasture in the Connecticut River Valley. We raise Corriedale, Lincoln Longwool, and Romney crosses. They are lucky to get sheared by Bladeshearers Kevin Ford and John O’Connell, competing on the American team in the Olympics of sheep shearing, Golden Shears.

Raw Fleeces
Hildred’s Farm produces nice raw fleeces available in a variety of colors and staple lengths, cleaned of vegetable matter and tags, some of hand spinner quality. Each individual sheep’s fleece is bagged separately to scour and make yarn, roving, felted items etc.  Customers have also used our wool to create filling for mattresses and pillows, and to insulate beehives.

The CT Blanket
Along with 15-20 other farms in CT we participate in the CSBA’s Connecticut Blanket Project, producing beautiful heirloom wool blankets in a variety of sizes. Current designs include a solid grey color with three light end stripes, and a buffalo split-plaid design of natural undyed white and dark wool.

Sheepskins
We offer a wide variety of sheepskins, in textures ranging between compact and uniform to long and fluffy…in all different sizes and colors from white to brown to charcoal and occasional mixed colors. We market them as a luxurious home design element, as a rug or wall-hanging, as a throw on a chair or bed, car seat cover, or pet bed. Our sheepskins are also sought-after for their therapeutic effects in baby bassinets, wheelchairs, long-haul trucking seats, work-from-home chairs.

The Sheep Calendar
The Hildred’s Farm annual Sheep Calendar has become a tradition in wall art featuring 12 months of our sheep and lambs in action on a classic New England farm, with interesting dates in history on each day of the year.

Yarn
We also carry limited quantities of sport and worsted weight yarns made from the finest fleeces of our flock. The undyed yarn comes in white, gray, and dark brown/black, the colors of our sheep, providing a great palette for experiments in dyeing or colorwork projects. Yarn dyed with natural plant dyes may be available for purchase as well.

Shoe/Boot Inserts
From panels of our felted wool, lined with a non-slip vinyl, we create inserts in adult shoe/boot sizes. We believe that the instant cozy warmth and comfort our sturdy inserts provide to feet is well worth the cost, lasting several seasons of strenuous winter use.

Wool Pellets
Our newest value-added product is wool pellets, the miracle garden product made from waste wool. 30%-40% water retention saves on watering frequency, and the nutrients from wool pellets provide especially high levels of nitrogen to fertilize gardens or houseplants.
